Celebrations

A deep voice sounded in her ear just before the slender, yet strong arm slid around her waist, "So what's a pretty lady like you doing all alone on a night like tonight."

Bright blue eyes glinted with amusement and from the light of the nearby bonefire as the slim woman in a simple, dark blue, sheath dress that showed off her long legs to advantage and a modest amount of cleavage didn't turn her gaze away from the dancers before her, who were moving almost feverishly to the fast paced music that was being played. A small smile curved her lips, "Taking a break from the festivities while waiting for my boyfriend."

"Some boyfriend if he's leaving you all alone."

Dimples flashed as her smile turned into a grin, "Oh, I don't know, he certainly has certain things going for him."

"Really now, like what?", Kasperov asked as he slid in next to Marlana, hugging her close to him. Frost white hair swirled slightly as she tilted her face up towards him, the amusement even brighter, though there was another emotion mixed in that truly made her gaze shine. "Well, I should think that would be between him and I, no?"

A toothy grin flashed at her, "Minx."

The dimples deepened, "Sometimes."

"Shut up and kiss me, princess", and this time managed to get a kiss in before she could say anything, a seemingly mere brush of the lips, but one that promised more later.

When they parted, her eyes shone in a way they only did for him and she gave him a warm smile as the music shifted to something slower to give the dancers a chance to catch their breath. By mutual, if silent, agreement, the two moved out to join the other dancers. While they weren't the finest dancers in the lot, their movements flowed together far better than most of those around them. Lana suddenly smiled at seemingly nothing then gave Nicholai an amused glance. The look her gave her was mixed with good humor if a touch of wariness.

"What now?"

She grinned a bit more, "Did I ever tell you I liked your idea of fun better than mine?"

The question threw him slightly. "No...what makes you say that?"

Lana flushed slightly, "The first party I approached you at and we started talking...I was trying to work up the nerve to ask you to dance."

At first all he could do was stare at her for a moment then he let loose with the surprisingly deep guffaw he'd been known to make. Some of those nearby turned to look, but went back to their own conversations. Still chuckling he shook his head slightly, "You really are something else, but I did give you a dance that night even if it wasn't the one you had in mind."

There was another toothy grin at her expression before he let her change the subject. For a time the two danced together, talking quietly on and off, simply enjoying the time together. When the music shifted back to a faster, wilder beat, they drifted off to a secluded spot well within the perimeter of the camp that they had spent some time together before. Just as he was about to suggest going to a different spot when he saw the neatly folded blankets next to a small cooler containing a bottle of wine in a bed of partially melted ice, she grabbed one of the blankets and spread it out for them to sit on. "The grass is pleasant, love, but it poked me in some not so pleasant areas."

This time it was her turn to grin at him. It didn't take long for the two to make themselves comfortable with a cup of wine each as they stretched out together on the blanket, gazing up at the night sky. After pouring them some more wine, she looked up at him through her long lashes, "Can I ask you a question."

He shifted around so that his legs were along the side of hers with her back resting against his chest and his arms wrapped around her, "Of course."

"What's with the chemo patient look?" The tone of her voice took out any sting that the words may have held.

A soft sound of disgruntlement was heard, "Thank you for your wonderful compliment princess. And for the record it isn't a chemo patient look."

"Well...all right, what is it supposed to be then?"

There was a cheerfully disgruntled sigh, "I had two reasons. The first was that I wanted a different look from the proper military look."

"It is different."

"Hush you. The second reason is that I wanted a more intimdating look."

Being the smart woman she was, she opted not to say any of the several thoughts fluttering through her mind.

"What?"

"I'm going to be good."

"Pity, and here I had some bad things in mind that can be fun."

"Oh, well, in that case I think I can be persuaded to be bad."

Then there wasn't conversation for a time as they had their own private celebration under the starry night sky.
